Phil & John's

Hebridean Cycle Tour

John & Phil 2017.jpg

We're planning to cycle the Hebridean Way and beyond in aid of St John’s Hospice, Lancaster when Phil has fully recovered from his upcoming hip operation.  The 500 mile route is north from Barra to Lewis before heading south via Skye, Mallaig, the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and Mull. You can view the daily route maps below. This is the ride we wanted to do last May but had to be postponed due to Covid-19.

As well as an adventure, this trip is a tribute to our good friend Mark Bailey (photo below) who was an active and popular member of our South Lakeland U3A Cycling Group. He died in May 2019 aged 68 only 5 months after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour.  It was such a cruel blow to someone who was extremely fit, healthy and full of life.

The staff at St John’s Hospice in Lancaster cared for Mark in the last few weeks of his life with such dedication, kindness and patience that we are aiming to raise £1000 on their behalf.
